Nicolas Marmaras

marmarasN. Marmaras is Professor of Ergonomics at the National Technical University of Athens, Dept. of Mechanical Engineering. He holds PhD in Ergonomics from the Conservatoire National des Arts et Mêtiers - France (1984), Diplome d' Etudes Approfondies (DEA) in Ergonomics from the Université Paris XIII - France (1981) and Diploma in Mechanical & Electrical Engineering -spec. Production Engineering, from the National Technical University of Athens - Greece (1979).

He is head of the Ergonomics Unit of the Laboratory of Industrial Management and he is teaching the under-graduate courses "Work Study and Elements of Ergonomics", "Ergonomics", "Production Management" and the post-graduate course "Occupational Safety Management".

His research interests cover the areas of Cognitive Engineering, Ergonomic design, Human-Computer Interaction, User-centred design of IT systems, and Occupational Safety. He has carried out several RTD projects funded by the European Union and national funds. He has also undertaken and supervised many applied projects for Greek industries and organizations, dealing with improvement of working conditions, design or redesign of workplaces and products, plant layout, occupational safety and health, usability assessment of IT products, etc.

He frequently publishes in international and national scientific journals and books, and presents research papers in international and national conferences. He has written two handbooks in Greeks ("Introduction in Ergonomics" and "Occupational Safety & Health"). He is member of the editorial board of the journals "International Journal of Human Computer Interaction", "Human Factors and Ergonomics in Manufacturing & Service Industries" and "Theoretical Issues in Ergonomics Science" and of the "Handbook of Industrial Engineering", 3rd Edition, (Ed.) G. Salvendy, (New York: John Wiley & Sons).
