venierisProfessor of Accounting at the Accounting and Finance Department of the Athens University of Economics and Business. Studied Economic and Business Sciences at the Athens University of Economics and Business (1970). Carried out postgraduate studies at the Department of Accounting of Birmingham University in England where he obtained his Master of Commerce (1971) and his Doctorate (Ph. D., 1975) Degrees. Doctoral thesis on the Profitability of Options and Warrants Markets in Britain. During studies, he was awarded a number of grants and other distinctions. Worked as Research Associate at the University of Birmingham (1973-1974). Elected Adjunct Lecturer of Accounting (1977), Associate Professor of Accounting (1982) and Professor of Accounting (since 1991) at the Athens University of Economics and Business. Visiting Professor at York University in Toronto, Canada (1988). Served as Dean of the Business Administration Department of the Athens University of Economics and Business and Member of the Senate of the same University (1985-1987 and 1998-2000). Responsible for the accounting Applications Laboratory of the University (since 2000). Elected as Vice Rector of the Athens University of Economics and Business and Member of the Senate (1998-2001), as Rector of the Athens University of Economics and Business (2001-2007) and as Dean of the Accounting and Finance Department of the Athens University of Economics and Business (2007 - 2009).

Also worked as Advisor to the Deputy Minister of Finance for the reorganisation of the Public Sector Accounting System; Head of the Team of Experts in Accounting and Costing issues appointed by the National Telecommunications Commission of Greece (NTC) to examine and provide recommendations regarding costing of interconnection and interconnection charges for the telecommunications networks in Greece. Has published a considerable number of monographs and articles in Greek and International Scientific Journals and has made presentations at several International Scientific Conferences. Has written six text books. Worked as financial and management consultant with a large number of Greek commercial and industrial companies. Was auditor of the Bank of Greece and member of the Tax Books and Accounts Committee at the Ministry of Finance. Was the Chairman of the Committee that revised the Books and Documents Code for taxation purposes (1990–1991). Has been instructor at a large number of seminars. Member of the Executive Committee and President of the European Accounting Association. Scientific Coordinator of the programme of the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA) in Greece. Has been project leader in many European Union and Greek State finabced research projects. Has issued a number of Opinions on fraud disputes presented at Greek Courts of Justice.
